Kornhlaðan
From 1834 to today.

The building
The building at Bankastræti 2 dates to 1834, when Bernhöft's Bakery began operating on the site — the very reason the street was once called Bakarabrekka, the bakery hill. Across nearly two centuries it has served downtown Reykjavík in many forms: bakery, storehouse, grain loft, and gathering place. The name Kornhlaðan refers to that grain-storing chapter. Today the building stands restored and back in use — its character preserved, its rooms shaped for modern events.

Bankastræti 2 has been a working room since the 19th century. The rafters remember more evenings than we do.

Today
Today Kornhlaðan is operated as a rental venue by White Lotus ehf and Blessing ehf. It is available for weddings, corporate events, private celebrations, and cultural gatherings. We do not run a restaurant on-site — we focus on the space itself and on partnership with the city's best caterers and event professionals.

Stories read better in the room they were told in. Book a viewing — tea, a walk-through, a conversation. No obligation.
